Dinner in Maastricht: Ceramique

Ceramique is a sustainable restaurant that has been housed in a monumental building close to the Maas for over 20 years. Although they’ve been around for a long time they might be the least old fashioned restaurant in Maastricht. Besides meat and fish they serve many vegetarian and vegan dishes. Something that’s not easy to find in this city!

On the menu the vegetarian and vegan dishes are clearly marked. They’ve got no less than 5 vegan starters. Including a chickpea mango soup and chestnut mushrooms with balsamic. My favorite is the yellow beet carpaccio with popped chioggia beets and mushrooms pictured below.

They also have many vegetarian main dishes (of which three are also vegan and two are gluten free). You can go for the risotto with pumpkin or a chicory-rhubarb lasagna. They even have a vegetarian version of the typical Limburg dish ‘zuurvlees’, a traditional beef stew of that area.

Even though desserts are pretty much always vegetarian, they also have a dairy free dessert at Ceramique: rhubarb strawberry chutney with sorbet.

Ceramique is a good reason to travel to Maastricht in the south of the country, but if you’re looking for my food favorites in other cities in the Netherlands you can click here.
