Renewed Restaurant Rex in Hilversum

Restaurant Rex in Hilversum has been around for years, but it’s now completely renewed with a beautiful interior and a new food menu. Many people who grew up in Hilversum remember Rex as the club where they would go out in their younger years, but after the restyling Rex is now a beautiful restaurant with a very Instagrammable interior and delicious shared-dining dishes on the menu. Club Rex is also still open so you can visit it for a cocktail after dinner.

On the menu of Restaurant Rex, that is located in an iconic building in Hilversum, you’ll find all kinds of street-food dishes. You can pick 1 or 2 dishes per person per round and share them all with your company. I recommend that you start with the cold dishes and order a few warm ones later.
We started with Bread ‘n Dips; flatbread and pita bread wit hummus and yogurt dip. And we had this salad with goat cheese, grapes and walnuts.

There are all kinds of warm dishes on the menu of Restaurant Rex in Hilversum. They are conveniently sorted by fish, meat, vegetarian, dim sum and taco’s. There are 3 kinds of tacos; one with shrimps, one with chicken and the vegetarian taco pictured above with black beans, corn, guacamole and tomato chutney.
In the background you see their sweet potato muffin. We had no idea what to expect from this dish but it was absolutely delicious. It was a very airy muffin made from sweet potatoes and served with a blue cheese sauce. If you’re going to Rex next time you’re in Hilversum, I really recommend that you try the sweet potato muffin.

We were getting quite full but as we both really love ravioli we decided to share the ravioli dish. And I’m happy we did because it was really good. The homemade ravioli is stuffed with artichoke and pecorino cheese and served with a pumpkin foam.

The good thing about shared dining, is that you can also share the desserts which means you can taste two desserts of the menu! We went for the cheesecake with blueberries which tasted like an authentic New York cheesecake and the Apple Gyoza. The Apple Gyoza is a pastry filled with apple, served with vanilla ice cream, cookie crumbs and maple syrup.
