Did you see the latest food trend Cake in a Glass? It’s a way of preparing and serving cake where you’d either serve it in a glass or in a glass jar. In case of the latter it’s often called Cake in a Jar.
I think Cake in a Glass looks very festive, but it’s also super practical. This way you make the portions beforehand and you don’t need to cut the cake at the party. Just hand out the glasses to your guests and that’s all! On this page I’m telling you how to make Cake in a Glass.
You can of course make all kinds of variations to this cake in a glass recipe. I’ve created a vanilla cake with buttercream and strawberry jelly. But the possibilities are endless. You can make a carrot cake in a glass or a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. So feel free to vary and create your own version. You can use this recipe as a basic recipe and add your own touch.
Recipe Cake in a Glass
Ingredients (serves 8):
1 cake mix package (or make your own cake batter)
1 jar of strawberry jelly
250 gram powdered sugar
250 gram butter, soft
2 tablespoons of hot water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat the oven to the temperature stated on your cake mix package.
Prepare the cake batter. Grease a big, flat oven tin. So you’re not using a cake or pie tin for these cakes in glasses. Pour the batter in the oven tin.
Bake the cake in the oven. You’ll need less time than stated on the package as the cake will be ready sooner. You’ll probably need 10-15 minutes less, but it’s best to keep an eye out on the cake to be sure.
Let the cake cool in the tin for 5 minutes, and then transfer it to a wire rack to cool further.
In the meantime, make the butter cream by mixing the powdered sugar, butter, water and vanilla essence.
Use a cooking ring (or a glass) to cut circles out of the flat cake. Make layers in 8 glasses. Start with a layer of cake, then a layer of butter cream, then a layer of jelly. Repeat these steps.
