Are you in Amsterdam in December? I’ve listed the Best Christmas Spots in Amsterdam on this page. From beautiful Christmas Trees to wrapped up buildings. Here are all the great holiday sights in Amsterdam, the capital city of the Netherlands.
Besides Christmas, the Dutch also celebrate Sinterklaas. A children’s holiday on December 5th. So most decorations are put up at the end of November and are celebrating both Sinterklaas as Christmas. All these Christmas Spots in Amsterdam are also great on your Instagram feed!
Christmas tree at Magna Plaza
The Christmas tree at the Magna Plaza shopping center is probably the most well-known Christmas tree of Amsterdam. It’s for sure the biggest Christmas tree of Amsterdam. The tree is 3 stories high! You can find it in the Magna Plaza indoor shopping mall, right behind the Dam Square in the city center of Amsterdam.
Scheltema bookstore
I love the holiday decorations at the Scheltema bookshop. They’ve put up a large ribbon all over the building. And they’ve got Christmas decorations around the windows and huge presents above the entrance. You can find the Scheltema bookstore at the Rokin, right behind the Dam square in the city center.
Ice Rink Museumplein
The ice rink at the Museumplein (Museum Square) is always a great attraction if you’re visiting Amsterdam in winter time. With the Rijksmuseum at the background it makes a perfect winter wonderland Instagram picture. This year the ice rink at the Museumplein is open from November 14 2020 to January 31 2021.
Gingerbread Houses
The houses at the Canal belt in Amsterdam look lovely any time of the year, but in winter they really remind me of gingerbread houses and I love them even more. You can find these cute houses all over the city center of Amsterdam. The best streets to spot the gingerbread houses are along the canal belt or at the Rokin where I took this picture.
Canal Belt
Not only the houses, but also the canals themselves look great in winter time. They put up the Christmas lights on the trees and especially in early evenings you’ve got beautiful views of the sunset and the canals.
Polaberry
Polaberry sells very Instagrammable chocolate covered strawberries, chocolate bars and cakesicles (cake pops). They always have their famous pink strawberries and unicorn cakesicles but during the holiday season they’ve also got Christmas and winter themed treats. Like these cute reindeer cake pops.
Amsterdam Light Festival
Every year in the winter the Amsterdam Light Festival takes place in the city centre of Amsterdam. There are all kinds of light art works spread out across Amsterdam. The best way to experience the Amsterdam Light Festival is from a boat. I like experiencing Amsterdam from the canals in general, but during the light festival youโll have the best views of all the art works. This year the Amsterdam Light Festival takes place from December 10 2020 to January 3 2021.
Christmas Palace
Even if you’re not in Amsterdam around the holidays, you can still enjoy a bit of Christmas spirit in Amsterdam. The Christmas shop Christmas Palace is open 365 days a year! You can find them on Singel, the canal in the city center.
