Food spots in Frankfurt
Many people visit Frankfurt in Germany for business. Since it’s located centrally in Europe, many conferences take place here. If you come in December you’re probably there to visit the Christmas Market.
But also if you’re not there for business or the Christmas market, Frankfurt has some nice food options and quite some choices for vegetarians. I’ve listed my favorite food spots in Frankfurt on this page including my favorite cheesecake and my favorite vegetarian burger.

Vevay
Vevay is a vegetarian and vegan restaurant that opened in 2015. The name stands for vegetarian, vegan and yummy! They’re open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and offer meat free and organic dishes. For breakfast you can have scrambled tofu with avocado, for lunch a quinoa salad and for dinner a falafel burger just to name a few options. They also have several cakes and desserts that change daily. I had this vegan blueberry crumble for example!
Sugar Mama
Speaking of cakes… Cafe Sugar Mama always has a wide range of delicious cakes, brownies and cookies. Not so healthy, but very tasty! The sweets vary daily but they’re all homemade. If you’re lucky they have their delicious carrot cake! The slices aren’t small so you can also share a piece. Sugar Mama is also a great place to go to if you want a good cup of coffee or tea from fresh tea leafs.
Gioia
Across the river from Sugar Mama you can find Gioia, this simple family-friendly restaurant serves wood oven pizza’s, pasta’s and other Mediterranean specialties. You can go for their beetroot pizza or homemade gnocchi (if you like gnocchi you might like my recipe for sweet potato gnocchi). They have several vegetarian and vegan options like really tasty falafel. I recommend the hummus with olive oil, pine nuts and parsley, with of course the falafel. It includes a warm pita bread.
Der Fette Bulle
Der Fette Bulle is a hamburger restaurant very close to the Frankfurt Central Station (Hauptbahnhof). Besides the usual beef burgers they also have several chicken burgers and no less than four vegetarian burgers. I love veggie burgers. I’ve been on a quest to find the best veggie burger of Amsterdam and in almost all my travel blogs you’ll find a recommendation for a good veggie burger. My favorite in Frankfurt is this tofu/avocado burger from Der Fette Bulle.
Falafel 1818
Also close to the central station (hauptbahnhof) of Frankfurt is Falafel 1818. This small shop has many vegetarian options as well as some vegan options.Their vegan pita with hummus and aubergine (eggplant) is very tasty and great for a quick meal. Their falafel is homemade and they also have salads and soups
Traffic Snack
Now that I’m sharing food spots near the Central Station, I should also mention Traffic Snack. They might look like a thirteen in a dozen sandwich shop of which you can find many at the station. But they have several vegan options (hurray). They’ve got a sandwich with vegan cheese, a vegan burger and the vegan bun with hummus and vegetables pictured above.
Frankfurt is really close to wine region Rheinhessen, and it’s a great to combine the two on a trip and just a two hour drive from Frankfurt you’ll find the lovely German city Stuttgart.
