Accommodation in Swedish Lapland

This summer my boyfriend and I made a road trip in Swedish Lapland. We went to several great towns in this northern region of Sweden and especially enjoyed the beautiful nature of the area. We stayed in nice hotels, campsites and bed & breakfasts. On this page I’m sharing my favorite places to sleep in Swedish Lapland with you.

Skellefteå

You probably arrive in Swedish Lapland by landing on Skellefteå airport. You can fly there from Stockholm and in the summer Voigt Travel has direct flights from Rotterdam Airport for travellers from The Netherlands and Belgium.
In Skellefteå you can stay at the beautiful Stiftsgården hotel. It’s the perfect place to relax after your flight. The rooms are a calming white with wooden floors. They serve a lovely breakfast and you can rent bicycles to explore Skellefteå.

Burträsk

Burträsk has two lovely places to spend the night. One of them is campsite Burträsk Camping. The Dutch couple Egbert and Sandra do a great job making the guests feel welcome. There’s a campsite area where you can park your camper or caravan or put up your tent. They’re also a Geardrop location, so you don’t have to bring your own camping gear, All places come with electricity. They also have several cottages that you can rent. There’s a cafe where you can go for coffee, cake, lunch or ice-cream. There’s a beach right next to the campsite and you can rent electrical boats at Burträsk to sail around the lake right from Burträsk Camping.

Another great place to sleep in Burträsk is Edelvik. It’s way more than only a hotel, it’s also a school, restaurant, performance hall and conference facility. At the Edelvik accommodation house you can rent a room with your own shower and toilet and a shared kitchen. Breakfast is served at the restaurant.

Piteå

The best place to say in Piteå is the Piteå Stadshotell. It’s a beautiful 4 star accommodation. We stayed in one of the newly designed rooms. The new rooms greatly combine the old feel of the hotel with a modern interior. It’s located within walking distance of all the nice shops and restaurants. They have an extensive breakfast buffet at the Piteå Stadshotell and you can sit down at their Verandan restaurant for dinner.

Sörbyn

The Sörbyn Lodge is an idyllic typical Swedish Lapland accommodation. The reception building is the typical red with white an it’s overlooking a lake. You can choose to stay in one of the 8 hotel rooms or one of the cabins. They have 5 cabins, which all have a lake view.
You can enjoy breakfast in their main building so when the weather is nice you can enjoy your sandwich or granola on the terrace overlooking the lake. On Friday evenings in summer Sörbyn Lodge hosts a buffet for dinner.

Storforsen

Without a doubt the best place to stay if you’re going to see the Storforsen rapids is the Storforsen Hotell. The hotel is located on the food of the Storforsen rapids and most of the rooms have a great view of the rapids. They have six types of rooms, so there’s one for every budget. From the hotel there’s a walking path all the way up to the rapids.
The hotel has many great facilities like a gym, small swimming pool, two saunas and a biljart.
There’s a spacious restaurant that serves a buffet in the evenings and has delicious breakfast options. The restaurant has a balcony with views over the Storforsen rapids.

Arjeplog

In Arjeplog there are two nice places of accommodation. One of them is Hornavall Hotell. This hotel is located right next to Lake Hornavall, the deepest lake of Sweden. It’s a beautiful large lake and all hotel rooms have a view over the lake. There’s a relaxing room with 2 jacuzzi’s that also overlook the lake. There’s a restaurant that’s open from Tuesdays to Saturdays and breakfast is served every day.

The other great place to sleep in Arjeplog is Silver Resort. Silver Resort has three types of accommodation; Silverhatten for groups, Silver Lodge in the mountains and hotel Kraja in Arjeplog. We stayed at the hotel at Kraja, but there’s also a camping and cabins. There’s a large outdoor pool for summer days and a floating sauna on a raft to warm up on cold days.

The restaurant of Kraja overlooks the lake and serves wonderful dishes. The cuisine is international but always with a touch of Lapland. They work with many local products and the food was a feast for the eyes and the mouth. I had this couscous with truffle oil rolled in cabbage served with a tomato mint sauce and eggplant chips for dinner and it was delicious!
