The Collector: beautiful design hotel in The Hague

If you’re planning a city trip to The Hague and looking for a stylish place to stay, The Collector Hotel is the hotel for you! In this blog post, I’ll tell you all about our experience at this beautiful boutique hotel in the city center of The Hague. From its award-winning design to its inspiring collections and delicious breakfast, this hotel really made our stay special. Whether you’re visiting The Hague for a weekend getaway, a business trip, or just a few days of culture and shopping, The Collector is a perfect base to explore the city.

The Collector Hotel

The Collector hotel is located right in the heart of The Hague, at the Haagsche Bluf courtyard, surrounded by shops, restaurants, and remakes of facades of historical buildings. It’s a boutique hotel with a unique look and feel, and it’s no surprise that it won the Entree Award for Best New Hotel (50-100 rooms). From the moment you step inside, the stylish design and luxurious atmosphere stand out. The lobby, the hallways, even the toilets; everything is beautifully decorated with an eye for detail. Don’t be put of by the upscale look; the vibe at the Collector Hotel is relaxed and welcoming.

A Hotel Full of Collections

As the name suggests, The Collector is all about collections. Throughout the hotel, you’ll find fun, surprising, and artistic displays of collected items. In our room, there was a huge mural made up of tiny collections – buttons, vintage toy cars, pieces of old paintings, and more. But also in the lobby and the restaurant, you’d see all kinds of collections. Like a wall covered with cassette tapes. Even in the toilets there are cabinets with memorabilia.

The Rooms

The hotel offers five different types of rooms, plus a spacious loft. All the room types are named after objects that you can use for a collection (like ‘the Wallet’ and ‘the Canvas’). We stayed in The Gallery, a room that lives up to its name with bold art on the walls and beautiful design touches throughout. The kingsize bed was super comfortable, there were large windows on two sides of the room, and the bathroom had a big rain shower that felt like a mini spa. There was free coffee and tea and wifi. Everything looks and feels high-end, without being over the top.

The Breakfast

Breakfast at The Collector is just as carefully curated as the rest of the experience. There’s a breakfast buffet with fresh bread, fruit, pastries, juices, and plenty of savory options. But the highlight is the chef on site, who can make custom dishes upon request like pancakes, French toast, or sunny side up eggs. It feels a little extra without being too fancy (although you could enjoy a glass of bubbles with your breakfast). The breakfast area itself is also beautifully styled and calm, making the whole experience even better. It’s a lovely way to start your day before heading out into the city.

Why Visit The Hague

The Hague is often overlooked by tourists heading straight to Amsterdam or Rotterdam, but it has so much to offer. It’s located just south of Amsterdam, and it’s easy to reach by train. The Dutch government is based here, which gives the city a unique mix of grand buildings, embassies, and international institutions. Plus, you’re just a short tram ride away from Scheveningen beach, perfect if you want to combine city life with some sea air. The city also has great museums, like the Mauritshuis, and plenty of shopping streets and cozy cafés to explore.
