I spend the night at Black Label Hotel Valkenburg, in the South of Limburg in the Netherlands. Valkenburg is a small town near Maastricht. Black Label Hotels has several hotels in the South of Limburg and with their hotels they want their guests to experience something different than just a standard hotel with a standard restaurant. On this page I’m telling you all about our stay at the Black Label Hotel Valkenburg.
Black Label Hotel
The Black Label Hotel in Valkenburg is located in a modern building on the South-West side of Valkenburg. It opened up in April 2019 and you can see that it’s brand new.
The rooms have a modern interior design with a both warm and industrial look. The black metal aspects and concrete walls give the Industrial feel, but the carpet and hints of orange make sure that it also has a warm feel to it. The bed is located in the middle of the room. Our bed had a nice view of the park right next to the hotel.
Each room has a modern, dark bathroom with a rain shower and a seperate toilet. There’s a coat rack and mini fridge in each room. The wifi is free and you can park for free in front of the hotel.
Black Label Restaurant
The Black Label Hotel in Valkenburg also has a nice restaurant. When we were there on a Saturday it was quite busy. I think that half of the people were hotel guests and half of them went there purely for dinner. I always think it’s a good sign if other people are also having dinner at a hotel restaurant, as it shows that the food alone is worth the trip.
You can choose a 3, 4 or 5 course menu and optionally go for a wine pairing. You can also choose from the a la carte menu with salads, pastas and burgers.
We went for the three course menu. For €34,50 you can choose between 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 desserts. There’s a meat, fish and vegetarian option for each course. I went for the vegetarian options which was goat cheese, sweet potato cream, pistaches, Parmezan and popcorn as a starter and Fregola Sarda as a main. Fregola (sometimes spelled Fregula) is a type of pasta that almost looks like big couscous pearls. The Fregola Sarda at Black Label Hotel is served with mushrooms, truffle, burrata and a poached egg.
For dessert you can choose between the apple crumble with vanilla ice cream pictured below, crème brûlée and a cheese platter.
The town Valkenburg is a nice little town to stroll around in. There are several restaurants and bars. The main attraction of the town are the marl caves where you can walk or even bike around in. The Christmas market in one of the caves is very popular. There’s also a big Thermen sauna and a Holland Casino in Valkenburg. The casino is within walking distance of the hotel, so we went for a gamble during our stay.
Maastricht is very closeby, click here to check my favorite food spots in Maastricht.
