New Year’s Eve in Barcelona

Are you spending New Year’s Eve in Barcelona? You’re in luck! It’s a great city to celebrate the start of a new year. On this page I’m telling you all about the best New Year’s Eve parties on the 31st of December in Barcelona. From big clubs to cosy tapas restaurants. Let’s find out where to celebrate ‘Nochevieja’ in Barca!

On this page I’ve listed all the information for New Year’s Eve 2023 / 2024. But these restaurants, bars and clubs have New Year’s Eve parties every year.

How to Celebrate New Year’s Eve in Barcelona

There are basically two options. The first one is that you go out for dinner at a restaurant with a special New Year’s Eve menu and that you do a countdown at midnight there.
Or that you celebrate the first part of the evening at home or at the Montjuic fountains (I’ll tell you more about it later) and that you go to the club after midnight.

Grapes

The tradition at midnight in Spain is that you eat a grape for every strike of the clock, so twelve in total. If you manage to eat them all in time, it’ll give you a year of prosperity and good luck. Many restaurants will offer you the 12 grapes if you’ve booked your dinner there at the 31st of December.

Red underwear

Another tradition is to wear red underwear on the last day of the year. According to the stories, you’ll find your better half in the coming year if you do so. So are you single, and looking for love? Make sure to pack some red underwear if you’re planning a trip to Barcelona for New Year’s Eve.

New Year’s Eve show at the Magic Fountain in Montjuïc

What New Year’s Eve at Times Square is for New York, is the New Year’s Eve show at the Magic Fountain in Montjuïc for Barcelona. From 9:30 pm onwards there will be music and light shows. And the real spectacular starts 12 minutes before midnight. Often including fireworks and drones. There’s always a big crowd, so make sure to get there early.

Please note that because of the drought the fountain will not be part of the spectacular in 2023.

Abrassame

Want to have dinner with views of the show at Montjuïc? Then you should book your table at Abrassame. This restaurant is located on the top floor of the Arenas shopping mall, right across the magic foutain of Montjuïc. On the menu are several fish and meat dishes. Wine, Cava and the lucky grapes are inlcuded. The price is €195,-.

Poble Espanyol

Probably the most well-known New Year’s Eve party in Barcelona. Poble Espanyol is an open-air museum during the day time, but you won’t believe how hard they party here at night! Tickets are €40, the party is from 10:30pm till 6am.

Jamboree Jazz Club

Jamboree Jazz Club is very centrally located near La Rambla. They always organize great New Year’s Eve parties. Don’t be fooled by the name, they won’t play Jazz music at the party. It’s a party where you can go casually dressed, so it’s great if you didn’t anticipate bringing your fancy dress. The entrance is only 25euro.

Jackies

Jackies organizes a Back to the 80’s and 90’s New Year’s Eve party every year. This theme party is popular, so tickets sell out far in advanced.
