New Year’s Eve in Barcelona

Are you spending New Year’s Eve in Barcelona? You’re in luck! It’s a great city to celebrate the start of a new year. On this page I’m telling you all about the best New Year’s Eve parties on the 31st of December in Barcelona. From big clubs to cosy tapas restaurants. Let’s find out where to celebrate ‘Nochevieja’ in Barca!

On this page I’ve listed all the information for New Year’s Eve 2023 / 2024. But these restaurants, bars and clubs have New Year’s Eve parties every year.

How to Celebrate New Year’s Eve in Barcelona

There are basically two options. The first one is that you go out for dinner at a restaurant with a special New Year’s Eve menu and that you do a countdown at midnight there.
Or that you celebrate the first part of the evening at home or at the Montjuic fountains (I’ll tell you more about it later) and that you go to the club after midnight.

The tradition at midnight in Spain is that you eat a grape for every strike of the clock, so twelve in total. If you manage to eat them all in time, it’ll give you a year of prosperity and good luck. Many restaurants will offer you the 12 grapes if you’ve booked your dinner there at the 31st of December.

Red underwear

Another tradition is to wear red underwear on the last day of the year. According to the stories, you’ll find your better half in the coming year if you do so. So are you single, and looking for love? Make sure to pack some red underwear if you’re planning a trip to Barcelona for New Year’s Eve.

New Year’s Eve show at the Magic Fountain in Montjuïc

What New Year’s Eve at Times Square is for New York, is the New Year’s Eve show at the Magic Fountain in Montjuïc for Barcelona. From 9:30 pm onwards there will be music and light shows. And the real spectacular starts 12 minutes before midnight. Often including fireworks and drones. There’s always a big crowd, so make sure to get there early.

Please note that because of the drought the fountain will not be part of the spectacular in 2023.

Want to have dinner with views of the show at Montjuïc? Then you should book your table at Abrassame. This restaurant is located on the top floor of the Arenas shopping mall, right across the magic foutain of Montjuïc. On the menu are several fish and meat dishes. Wine, Cava and the lucky grapes are inlcuded. The price is €195,-.

Poble Espanyol

Probably the most well-known New Year’s Eve party in Barcelona. Poble Espanyol is an open-air museum during the day time, but you won’t believe how hard they party here at night! Tickets are €40, the party is from 10:30pm till 6am.

Razzmatazz is one of the big clubs in Barcelona where you can celebrate New Year’s Eve. From 10:30-00:15 there’s a show plus a countdown at midnight. After 01:00 there are 5 rooms, all with a different theme. Doors open at 10:30pm, early bird tickets are €64,50 for the whole evening or €55,50 for entrance after midnight. Entrance includes 2 drinks, a t-shirt, party bag, lucky grapes and a glass of champagne.

Opium, also one of the biggest clubs in Barcelona, also organizes a New Year’s Eve party. Doors open at 11pm and the party continues until 6am. For tickets from 11pm onward you pay €100. It includes 12 grapes to take part in the Spanish tradition of welcoming the new year.
Tickets with entrance from 00:15 onwards start at €50. These Early Bird tickets sell out fast, so expect to pay at least €60.

Another famous club in Barcelona where you can celebrate New Year’s Eve is Pacha. You might know this club from Ibiza or London, but they actually started in Sitges, close to BCN. Pacha Barcelona is located near Port Olimpique.

Sutton Club

You can also dance into the new year at Sutton Club. Prices start at €50 and they include a drink.

City Hall Club

Club City Hall opens up at midnight and is open to 7am. Tickets are only 20 Euro.

Jamboree Jazz Club

Jamboree Jazz Club is very centrally located near La Rambla. They always organize great New Year’s Eve parties. Don’t be fooled by the name, they won’t play Jazz music at the party. It’s a party where you can go casually dressed, so it’s great if you didn’t anticipate bringing your fancy dress. The entrance is only 25euro.

Jackies organizes a Back to the 80’s and 90’s New Year’s Eve party every year. This theme party is popular, so tickets sell out far in advanced.

Gigi von Tapas

Restaurant Gigi von Tapas has a special New Year’s Eve menu every year. The menu includes several rounds with dishes to choose from (with also plenty of vegetarian options). You also get a welcoming cocktail, a bottle of wine and the 12 grapes. The menu costs €83,- per person.

Shoko also always hosts New Year’s Eve parties. They’ve got two options: a Fin de Año Gala Dinner Show and the Club party. Tickets for the Gala Dinner Show are around 350,-, but for this you’ll get a complete dinner with wine, a bottle of Champagne, shows during the dinner and entrance to the club afterwards, including one drink. For the Club part only (opening at 00:30) you’ll pay 60euro (including one drink).

Want to start the New Year in an original way? At restaurant Supra in Barcelona you can have a Georgian dinner on New Year’s Eve. You get a glass of champagne to welcome you, shared appetizers, a starter, main course (in 2023 it’s lamb with honey), a dessert, and the 12 lucky grapes. After midnight the restaurant turns into a club and you can celebrate until late. The prices vary from €150 to €220.
