Sleeping in a tree house in the Ardèche

During our road trip in the Ardèche in France we spent one night in a very unique accommodation: a tree house! It was such a wonderful experience, I was excited the entire length of our stay. I’d love to tell you all about our stay in the tree house in the Ardèche, and I recommend you to book a night too as it’s a really great experience.

You can find this beautiful tree house at Au Fil de Soi in Issamoulenc in the Ardèche area in France. It’s located in a lovely park with hills and a river. The surroundings make you feel relaxed straight away. The ‘hebergement’ is housed in a former silk windmill, and completely restored by the current owners, the couple Jerome and Anne.
Au fil de Soi is an ecologic accommodation, rewarded with the European Ecolabel since 2010. Every morning you can enjoy breakfast in their dining room together with the other guests. If you’re staying in the tree house you can also choose to have the breakfast delivered to the cabin and enjoy it on your balcony.

Besides the tree house they have a gite for 15 people that is ideal if you’re going with a group of friends or family, a gite for 4 people, several chambres and a workshop space.
No matter in which accommodation you’re staying, you can enjoy a delicious homemade dinner in the dining room. Vegetarian is no problem, as the meals are often focused on vegetables anyway. They use as many local ingredients as possible, many of them from their own garden! They even make their own yogurt.

But the main reason why I recommend Au Fil de Soi is of course the Tree House. It was such a unique experience to spend the night there. I felt like a little girl again and I’m sure that if you have kids they’ll definitely enjoy it too!
The tree house is very sturdy, so there’s no need to be afraid.
After getting up the stairs you’ll enter your balcony. Here you have a hammock and a table with chairs. You’re literally in the middle of the tree, so you’re surrounded by green leaves and peace and quietness.

When you enter you’ll see a lovely kitchen that has everything you need; a kettle and tea bags, a toaster, a fridge, tableware. In the same room is a small living room area with a table and chairs and a heater that keeps the tree house nice and warm on cold days. There’s also a toilet in the tree house.

If you go up the stairs, you’ll get to my favorite area of the tree house. This big window gives you the feeling that you’re outside but with the comfort of being warm. There’s a fluffy carpet and many pillows for you to snuggle. You might even see a squirrel passing by outside.

On this floor you’ll also find a bunk bed where two people can sleep in. There’s one more small set of stairs that go up to a floor with a double bed. There are nice romantic lights there, so it’s a very cosy spot.
There’s a bathroom especially for the tree house guests downstairs. There’s an extra toilet and a shower. The bathroom was very clean and spacious.
