These New Year’s Eve cookies are the perfect festive treat to serve when you’re ringing in the new year. They look elegant and celebratory, but they’re surprisingly easy to make. Because they’re made with store-bought cookie dough, you don’t need much time or baking experience. With a little white chocolate, edible gold spray and some sparkly sprinkles, you can turn simple cookies into a beautiful dessert that fits perfectly on a New Year’s Eve table.
Cookie dough
For the base of these cookies, I used ready-made cookie dough. In the Netherlands, Albert Heijn sells a great option from the brand Mimo, which works really well for this recipe. I used a silicone mold with star shapes, which immediately gives the cookies a festive look. Simply place one cookie dough ball in each star-shaped cavity of the mold. Press them in gently so the dough fills the shape nicely, then bake the cookies according to the instructions on the package.
White chocolate
Once the cookies are baked, let them cool in the silicone mold for about 10 minutes. This helps them keep their shape. After that, carefully take them out and place them on a baking rack to cool completely. While the cookies are cooling, you can start preparing the chocolate layer. Melt 150 grams of white chocolate au-bain-marie until it’s completely smooth.
When the cookies have cooled, place the silicone mold back on a flat surface. Spoon a heaping teaspoon of melted white chocolate into each star-shaped cavity. Then gently press a star cookie on top of the chocolate, so the cookie sticks to the white chocolate layer. Make sure the cookie is centered and pressed in evenly. Place the filled mold in the fridge for about an hour, until the chocolate has fully set.

Decorate your New Year’s Eve Cookies
Once the chocolate is firm, carefully push the cookies out of the molds. You’ll now have star-shaped cookies with a smooth white chocolate base. To give them a festive New Year’s Eve look, spray a little edible gold on each cookie using gold spray. This is usually available in most larger supermarkets in December and instantly adds a luxurious touch.
Using the remaining melted white chocolate, create a few decorative stripes on one side of each star. While the chocolate is still soft, sprinkle on festive decorations. I used silver and gold sprinkles, but star-shaped sprinkles work beautifully as well. Let the decorations set completely before serving.
These New Year’s Eve cookies can be stored in an airtight container for a few days, making them ideal to prepare ahead of time. They’re simple, festive and perfect for celebrating the start of a new year.
