Marit opened the doors of her living room in 2011 to start her very own vegetarian living room restaurant in Amsterdam. After 5 successful years it was time for an upgrade. She moved out so there was more space for the restaurant and besides a vegetarian menu she and her partner Gino now also serve a vegan menu!
She renamed her living room restaurant to Marits Eetkamer.
Guests can choose between 3, 4 of 5 courses and whether they want the menu vegetarian or vegan. The menu changes monthly as she works with whatever the season has to offer. The pictures below are an indication of how healthy, colorful and plant based the menu is!
As a starter I had a vegan soup with turnip tops and salsa verde. My friend had the vegetarian salad pictured above with grilled cucumber, pickle mayonnaise and Lebanese flatbread with green pea hummus.
This pink ravioli is stuffed with broad beans and lemon and served with a tomato vinaigrette and lemon marinated carrot.
As a main dish we got grilled aubergine with candied tomato and caponata (an Italian aubergine dish)
We got two side dishes with the grilled aubergine; a lentil salad with roasted beetroot and a salad with white beans, green beans and tomatoes.
The vegan dessert was basil sorbet ice cream with rhubarb, strawberries and a vegan cookie.
My friend had the blueberry cheesecake with mint syrup and blueberries.
Besides the delicious food, Marits Eetkamer also has a nice atmosphere (if there’s space I recommend the serre behind the living room). A real gem in Amsterdam East!
