Restaurant The Birdhouse is located right next to Artis, the zoo of Amsterdam. The name is inspired by the bird collection from their neighbors. At the Birdhouse they serve dishes from all over the world in a beautifully decorated interior. Restaurant The Birdhouse is like an ‘urban jungle’ with concrete colored walls, a golden bar and animal prints. The Birdhouse in Amsterdam is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and a perfect place to enjoy a meal after a visit to Artis.

The interior gives a warm feeling with its dark colors and organic shapes. You’ll see many botanical influences and references to their name with bird-shaped lamps on the walls for example.
The restaurant has two areas. One where you enter, you’ll find the bar and comfortable seats to enjoy your lunch or dinner. In the back there’s a corridor in which you’ll also find the restrooms and after that there’s another space which is perfect for groups.

The menu of The Birdhouse in one sentence is: everything in bowls and the rest on toast. The menu is divided in toast with toppings and bowls of your choice. I went for the toast with avocado and poached egg. Isn’t it a piece of art? My friend went for one of the paninis.

For dinner they also serve everything in a bowl! From entrecote to pumpkin cream. Even the desserts come in a bowl. I bet you never had lemon pie in a bowl!
