Restaurant the BluZone in Utrecht serves food based on the principles of the blue zones. Maybe you’ve heard of it before but the blue zones are 5 areas in the world where people live longer and healthier. You can read more about the blue zones here.
There’s been research to see what these areas have in common so that we know what we can addapt to our lifestyles to also live lonfer with less diseases. Food of course is a very important factor.
Take-out and restaurant the BluZone, or BluZone2Go, in Utrecht based their menu on the diet of the inhabitants of the blue zones.
What it means for the menu is that you won’t find any processed foods on there and that each meal has a good amount of proteins, carbs and fats. Or as the BluZone calls it: Fitfood.
At BluZone you can choose between wraps, salads, burgers and bowls (the latter is with rice). They’ve got all kinds of combinations and varieties. For each dish the calories and macros are listed. You can easily swap ingredients. Prefer tofu over chicken? Just swap them! Rather have salsa verde than hummus? Just ask and they’ll change it.
If you like chicken, the chicken with Vadouvan herbs at BluZone is recommended by the friend I was with. And I as a vegetarian went for the Loma Linda Salad with tofu, black beans, coconut lime dressing, fresh cucumber, avocado and Pecorino cheese.
They also have smoothies and slow juices at Bluzone and if you want a small cheat they’ve also got you covered.
