I love making vegetarian and vegan versions of meat lovers their favorite foods. I made several vegetarian burgers and I even made vegan fish and chips! This time I wanted to make vegan bacon, also known as ‘facon’. I put my fake bacon on a slice of avocado toast to prove that you don’t need bacon for a good breakfast! I’m sharing the recipe and my food video below!
This facon is super easy to make, you only need two ingredients. The secret ingredient is rice paper. You might know rice paper from Vietnam or because you’ve had rice paper spring rolls called summer rolls.
To make facon you cut a rice paper sheet in strips. Brush both sides with your choice of marinade. I used vegan barbecue sauce. Warm a skillet and shortly fry the rice paper bacon on each side.
Toast a slice of wholegrain bread. Mash half an avocado. Spread the mashed avocado on the toast and cover with the facon.
Season with salt, pepper and chili flakes to taste.
