Easy Nutella Swirls Recipe

Move over cinnamon swirls! There’s a new kid in town: Nutella Swirls. I’ve never met a person that didn’t like Nutella, so I’m sure many of you will love this easy recipe for Nutella Swirls. All you need for these oven-baked Nutella buns are three ingredients. It doesn’t get much easier than that! And look how pretty they are! I’m sure you’ll impress everyone with them. Despite the few ingredients, they might look difficult to make. But if you know the trick they’re really easy to make. I’m showing you how to do it on my YouTube channel if you aren’t convinced yet.
On this page I’m sharing my easy Nutella Swirls recipe with you.

All you need for these swirls is puff pastry, Nutella, a whisked egg and an oven. That’s all! A pretty short grocery list if you ask me. I was inspired by the Feed Feed for these pretty swirl buns. But I made the recipe a whole lot easier by going for a store bought puffed pastry sheet, instead of making the dough myself. The big puffed pastry sheets have been popular in America for a while, but in the Netherlands you’d often only get the little square ones. Luckily most supermarkets now also sell these big rectangular shaped puff pastry sheets. Look for them in the cooled section (not the freezer), often next to the croissant dough cans.

Recipe Nutella Swirls

Ingredients (for 6 swirl buns):
1 sheet of puff pastry
4 tablespoons Nutella
1 egg, whisked

Roll out the sheet of puff pastry with the long side to the bottom. Spread Nutella on 2/3rds of the sheet. Take the uncovered puff pastry and fold it over half of the covered bit. Take the remaining third and fold it over the same bit. You now have a 3 layer thick rectangle the size of 1/3rd of the sheet. Have a look at my video to see what I mean.
Use a pizza cutter or sharp knife to cut the dough into thin slices, cutting length-wise. Roll each strip up and tuck the end under.
Cover a baking tray with parchment paper and put the swirls on it, leaving as much space between them as possible. Cover and let them rest for 20-30 minutes.
Pre-heat the oven to 190C/375F.
Brush the buns lightly with the whisked egg and bake for about 10 minutes. Cover them with parchment paper or aluminum foil and bake for 3 more minutes.
