Cape Town is an absolute paradise for food lovers. This vibrant city is packed with trendy cafés, buzzing food markets, stylish restaurants, and laid-back spots where you can enjoy a great meal any time of the day. Whether you’re craving a fancy dinner with creative dishes, a quick and healthy lunch, or simply want to sip cocktails while sharing small plates, Cape Town truly has something for everyone. During my trip to South Africa I tried quite a few amazing places, and in this blog post I’m sharing my personal favorite restaurants and food spots. These are, in my opinion, some of the best restaurants in Cape Town.
Neighbourgoods Market

If you only visit one food market in Cape Town, make it Neighbourgoods Market. Located at The Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock, this lively weekend market is one of the city’s most popular foodie hotspots. You’ll find stalls selling everything from fresh seafood and gourmet burgers to dumplings, curries, vegan dishes and sweet treats. It’s the perfect place to go with friends, because everyone can grab something different and you can taste a bit of everything. My tip: arrive early, because the market gets very busy, especially around lunchtime.
Kloof Street House

Kloof Street House is one of those restaurants where the atmosphere is just as impressive as the food. The interior feels like stepping into a beautiful vintage mansion, with plants, candles, and cozy corners everywhere you look. It’s romantic, stylish, and full of character. The menu offers a mix of international dishes and is perfect for sharing, but it’s also a great place to enjoy cocktails. Whether you visit for lunch or dinner, this is definitely one of the most memorable restaurants in Cape Town.
Chefs Warehouse and Canteen
For a more upscale dining experience, Chefs Warehouse and Canteen is a must. This restaurant is famous for its creative small plates and tasting menus, which allow you to try a variety of flavors in one meal. The dishes are beautifully presented and combine local ingredients with modern techniques. It’s the perfect spot for a special night out, especially if you enjoy surprising flavor combinations and refined dining without it feeling too formal.
Tiger’s Milk

Tiger’s Milk is a fun and casual place with a cool, energetic vibe. Expect comfort food like burgers, pizzas, nachos and loaded fries, paired with beers, cocktails and a lively atmosphere. It’s not the most luxurious restaurant in Cape Town, but it’s a great choice when you want something easy, filling and fun. Perfect after a long day exploring the city or heading back from the beach.
Kauai
When traveling, it’s nice to balance out all the restaurant meals with something healthy, and that’s where Kauai comes in. This popular South African chain offers smoothies, salads, wraps and nutritious bowls. It’s a great option for a quick breakfast or lunch, and you’ll find locations all around Cape Town. If you’re looking for something fresh and light, Kauai is always a safe (and tasty) choice.
Unframed Ice Cream

Unframed Ice Cream is the perfect stop if you’re craving a sweet treat. This trendy ice cream spot serves high-quality, creamy ice cream with a range of delicious flavors. It’s the kind of place where you end up ordering an extra scoop because everything looks so good. Whether you visit after dinner or just want a snack while walking through the city, Unframed Ice Cream is definitely worth it.
Extra Tip: Food Spots at the V&A Waterfront
The V&A Waterfront is a popular area for shopping and sightseeing, but it’s also a great place to stop for food and drinks. Yes, it can be a bit touristy, but the atmosphere is lively and you often get beautiful views over the harbor. It’s a lovely place to sit down for a drink, enjoy a meal, and watch the boats pass by.
