Last weekend I’ve been to Maastricht, a lovely city in the south of the Netherlands. This week I’m sharing my favorite hotspots with you.
I’m starting with my favorite place to start your day in Maastricht: De Brandweerkantine.
The Brandweerkantine means the canteen of the fire fighters and is actually housed in an old fire station. They’re open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and I love to go here for breakfast.
They have a very extensive menu so there’s a lot to choose from! And as a vegetarian, I love it that they have so many meat-free options.
They have sourdough bread with several toppings like red beets with egg or cheese with apple and fennel. They also have bagels. You can go for a bagel with cream cheese and pomegranate seeds and if you don’t mind a big breakfast you can go for a buckwheat-mushroom burger bagel with goat yogurt sauce.
On their menu you’ll also find a vegetarian panini with provolone cheese, caramelized onion and fig jam. And they have two vegetarian pita sandwiches. My favorite is the one with falafel and feta cheese.
Besides all the savory options mentioned above, de Brandweerkantine also has some nice sweet treats to satisfy your sweet tooth. What about pain du chocolat, scones or homemade cake?
De Brandweerkantine uses their spacious location well, they organize many activities like movie nights and table tennis competitions. They also have a workshop and conference room called the Centrale.
Looking for more hotspots in Maastricht? I can also recommend Cafe Zondag. It’s a great spot for lunch!
