TikTok Food Trends of 2022

It seems like social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok decide what the food trends are nowadays. It’s not the Michelin star chefs anymore, and even YouTube is falling behind. On this page I’m telling you all the (Instagram) and TikTok Food Trends of 2022. From Pumpkin buns to Gin Espresso Martini. How many of these food trends have you tried yet?

Butter board

The biggest TikTok food trend of 2022 is, without a doubt, the Butter board. With this food trend you spread out butter on a wooden serving board so that you can use it as a spread for bread or crackers. Most versions on TikTok and Instagram show food bloggers creating a nice pattern of the butter. And there are also all kinds of variations, like with garlic butter for example.

Comic cake

When you see the end result of a Comic Cake (or Cartoon Cake) you might think you’re looking at a 2D drawing. But these cakes are real, 3D and edible! On TikTok you can see tutorials on how to make them. I think these cakes are amazing. I haven’t seen a Comic Cake in real life yet, but it’s definitely on my bucket list!

Another food trend on TikTok in 2022 were the Pumpkin Buns. They were actually already quite popular in 2021, especially around Halloween. But they really took over TikTok in the fall of 2022. The main thing to pumpkin buns is that you use thread to create slits in a bread bun so that it gets the shape of a pumpkin. And you use pumpkin puree in the dough so that the buns get an orange color.

The Espresso Martini is one of my favorite cocktails and I saw many new versions of it on TikTok this year. I saw Biscoff Espresso Martini, Hot Cross Bun Martini and my favorite: Gin Espresso Martini. A great mash-up between an Espresso Martini and a Gin & Tonic. And it’s a TikTok trend that’s super easy to make!

Another TikTok food trend of 2022 was Loaded Hummus. Here you serve hummus on a plate instead of in a bowl, so that you can top it (‘load it’) with toppings of your choice. I made Loaded Hummus myself and I also made the hummus underneath myself. You can also use store bought hummus of course, but I think homemade hummus is so much better, and it’s super easy to make.
