Top Food Spots in Oostende

Oostende, the coastal town in North-West Belgium, has quite a few nice restaurants. Whether you’re looking for a place for breakfast, lunch or dinner; Oostende has great options for any time of the day. On this page I’m sharing my top food spots in Oostende. All of these food spots have good vegetarian or vegan options.

1 Rooftop terrace at Cappuccino

On the ground floor you’ll find Cappuccino, also a great food spots, especially to satisfy your sweet tooth. But if you walk up the stairs you’ll find the rooftop terrace. On the menu of the rooftop restaurant at Ooststraat 22 you’ll find all kinds of dishes that are made to share. You can order a few of your favorite street-food dishes for you and your company. We went for the Fully Loaded Nachos, The Vegan Beetroot Burger and the Cannelloni with spinach and ricotta. They also have two salads and two pasta dishes besides their street-food menu and you can also go for one of their sweet desserts like Lemon Cheese Cake or Churros.

2 La Vie

You can find restaurant La Vie in the touristic heart of Oostende. But luckily it’s not a tourist trap, it’s quite the opposite. On the menu of La Vie in Oostende you’ll find dishes from all over the world. They have 6 dishes that all have their roots in a different country. Red fish curry from Thailand for example or Conchita Fajita Mix from Mexico. I went for the Italian Pasta Pomodori. A great pasta dish, just how the Italians like it: simple and tasteful. It’s tagliatelle served with burrata, pine nuts, parmesan cheese and sun dried tomatoes.

3 Belle de Jour

Belle de Jour is a bistro located in the city center of Oostende. This restaurant is perfect if you want to enjoy culinary dishes in a warm and welcoming environment. They’re open for lunch and dinner and they work with as many organic and local products as possible. They’ve got all the haute cuisine classics like Vitello Tonnato and sea bass. I went for this vegetarian option: polenta with red beets and turnip and a basil sauce.
Leave some room for dessert. The Crème brûlée with tonka beans is delicious and the Bavarois with fresh fruit and crumble is the perfect ending to every dinner.

Other nice food spots in Oostende

  • Cultuur Cafe de Grote Post served dishes from all over the world but always with organic ingredients. They have many vegetarian options and a few that can be made vegan.
  • Organic Vision serves food based on the macrobiotic lifestyle. No gluten, yeast, dairy or sugar is used in their kitchen.
