These Decorated Christmas Cupcakes are such fun to make, and they look so festive! It’s a great treat for adults and kids. And the kids can even help decorate the cupcakes. A great activity for the Christmas break!
After I read the book of pie-decoration queen Life of Pie, I realized that you can decorate cupcakes with much more than just frosting or only one type of decoration. Whoever said ‘less is more’ definitely didn’t talk about cupcakes. I love these over-the-top decorated Christmas cupcakes. You can of course use any kind of topping you prefer, but on this page I’m telling you how I decorated my Christmas Cupcakes this year.
Step-by-Step decorated Christmas Cupcakes
Start with baking cupcakes from any recipe you’d like, or buy your cupcakes in your supermarket or local bakery. If you have Christmas muffin liners, you can put your cupcakes inside of them.
Mix three tablespoons of powdered sugar with half a teaspoon of water, until you’ve got a see-through frosting. Cover the cupcakes with this frosting and sprinkle Christmas sprinkles on top.
Make buttercream and add a few sprinkles of green food coloring. Put the frosting in a piping bag and create a dollop of green buttercream on the center of each cupcake.
Put a gingerbread man or a candy cane in the center of each cupcake.
Decorate your Christmas cupcake with Holiday chocolates of your choice. I found the big green en red balls in a store in the Netherlands. And the smaller red balls are cookie dough bites that I also found in a Dutch shop. You can also use red and green M&M’s of course!
