The Train hotel room in Utrecht. A great hotel room for kids!

Mats and I stayed at the train themed hotel room of Stayokay in the city center of Utrecht. It’s such a great hotel room for kids! On this page I’m sharing all the information about the train themed hotel room, our experience and of course many pictures of the room and our stay.

Stayokay

You might know the name Stayokay because they’ve got 20 hostels in the Netherlands. From Amsterdam to Terschelling. The hostels are often located at unique locations and always close to either nature or cultural destinations. They are hostels, as in they’ve also got dormitories which make them very suitable for groups. But they’ve also got rooms for couples or families.

Stayokay Utrecht Centrum

I love the Stayokay in the city center of Utrecht. The location is super central, right at the Neude square! You’re opposite the central library, that’s really worth a visit because of the beautiful interior. You’re surrounded by many restaurants and bars. Including The Fifth restaurant that has many vegetarian and vegan options.
And Stayokay Utrecht Centrum is within walking distance of the central train station and the pretty canal.

Train Room

The Train Room of Stayokay Utrecht Centrum is an absolutely fantastic room for families. Especially if your little one loves trains. Our son Mats is 2 years old and he loves all the modes of transportation, motorcycles, cars and especially trains. When I heard about this railway hotel room, I knew that he would love it.

The hotel room has a double bed and a bunk bed that sleeps two kids. A baby crib is available upon request. You’ve got your own toilet and shower. And bed linnen, shampoo and towels are provided.
The Train Room is designed in collaboration with the Railway Museum (Spoorwegmuseum) in Utrecht. Behind the double bed you can find a retro style mural of the entrance of the Railway museum.
There’s a train bench, train themed murals and decoration, a wooden puzzle with a train on it and train themed books for all ages.

What Mats loved most was the toy train set in the room. He spend a lot of time playing with it and it was hard to convince him to go out of the room for breakfast. The Brio toy train set was build on a table, so the kids can stand next to it while playing with it and even walk around.

Breakfast

It was such a surprise when we came to the breakfast buffet room in the morning; they’ve set up a table for us completely in train theme too! It had a nameplate with a train on it, train themed tablecloth and railway museum themed tableware. The breakfast is included when you book the train room.

Railway Museum

As said, the hotel room is made in cooperation with the Railway museum in Utrecht. The museum is also a real recommendation for when you’re visiting Utrecht with kids. It’s a great kid-friendly museum where you can delve into the transformative impact of trains on our world. Featuring an authentic train station, a theater with live performances, thrilling attractions, and a rotating array of special exhibitions and events, you’re always set on the right track here! All activities and shows are included in your entrance ticket.
If you book your stay at the train room of Stayokay, you get free entrance tickets to the Spoorwegmuseum for your family.
