Best Restaurants in Zwolle

There are some great restaurants and food spots in Zwolle, the capital city of Overijssel in the Netherlands. On this page I’m sharing the best restaurants in Zwolle. From breakfast, to brunch, lunch, cakes and dinner. All restaurants listed on this page have good vegetarian options.

De Gillende Keukenmeiden

De Gillende Keukenmeiden is super cosy inside for cold days and a very atmospheric outside area for summer days. On the menu you’ll find all kinds of healthy brunch and lunch dishes as well as a lot of pastries to satisfy your sweet tooth. On the counter inside you can choose which cake you’d like. Or, if you can’t choose between all that goodness, you can go for the tasting in which you get small pieces of several of the cakes.

Corners Cake

Corners Cake is every girls dream. No matter their age! Corners Cake has pink walls, flower covered walls, a unicorn merry-go-round horse and a menu full of Instagrammable dishes. French Toast for example with pink chocolate and jelly. And they’ve got many pastries like cakes and cupcakes.
In the basement they’ve got a special room for babyshowers and children’s birthday parties.
Corners Cake also makes (wedding) cakes and cupcakes that you can order for your party.

Jaffa Jaffa

Speaking of nice interiors; check out Jaffa Jaffa! And there are three floors of this beauty. Jaffa Jaffa is a perfect restaurant for date night or an evening out with your girlfriends. On the menu you’ll find stunning streetfood from all over the world! From Asia to the Middle East and from South America to Africa. A few of my favorites are the crispy cauliflower with avocado creme, the vegan kebab and the vegetables from the BBQ.

FLFL

It’s quite difficult to get really good falafel outside of Israel, but in Zwolle you’ve got FLFL. Finally a falafel that isn’t dry and actually tastes like the falafel balls that you get in the Middle East. Besides a plate of falafel with hummus, you can also order a falafel salad or a falafel wrap. Everything on the menu is vegan and you can order a gluten-free version of the wrap as well. You can have your food at FLFL to stay or to take-away.

Brasserie Jansen

Brasserie Jansen has been around for years, but has recently been taken over by Jonnie and Therese Boer, from the famous Michelin star restaurant in Zwolle De Librije. So this is your chance to have dinner at Jonnie and Therese without breaking the bank. The interior of Brasserie Jansen reminded me of the Italian restaurants you often see in New York. On the menu you’ll find all your favorite Italian dishes like burrata as a starter or ravioli as a main dish. Brasserie Jansen is open seven days a week from 10am to 10pm.

Blue Bayou

Blue Bayou is open 150 days a year, the nice spring and summer months. It’s a creative space, not only because of the second hand furniture but also because of the creative programming they have. They’ve got a great outdoor area that feels like a city beach, with views over the canal. On the menu are tacos and other Mexican and Tex-Mex dishes.

Brasserie de Hofvlietvilla

On the other side of the water you can find Brasserie Hofvlietvilla, a wonderful location. The 1928 villa is beautifully renovated and they’ve got a big terrace overlooking the canal. They’re open for lunch and dinner and in the weekends also for breakfast. You can also reserve a high tea or a high wine.

WannaWaffle

WannaWaffle shows how versatile waffles are. From sweet to savory, however you want it you can get it at WannaWaffle. It’s a great spot for brunch and lunch. My favorite sweet waffles are the white chocolate waffles and the cheesecake waffles. My favorite savory waffles are the smashed avocado waffle and the waffle tosti. They also have some waffles for kids.

Engel Winkelcafe

Engel Winkelcafe is a shop and cafe in one. They’re open for breakfast, lunch, sweets and appetizers. For lunch they serve thick slices of tasty bread with many toppings. The sandwich with goat cheese, chutney, blueberries and honey is my favorite. They’ve also got soups, salads and a great breakfast menu.

Coperto Restobar

Coperto Restobar is the restaurant of the Pillows Hotel in Zwolle. Looking for a fancy restaurant but not as fancy (and expensive) as the Librije? Then Coperto Restobar is the perfect spot for you. It’s been rewarded with a Bib Gourmand by Michelin and rightfully so. Coperto serves haute cuisine dishes with beautiful colors, flavors and textures.

Ingeburgerd

If you don’t want to eat anything fancy but just a good, satisfying meal, I recommend Ingeburgerd. They’ve got tasty burgers that won’t leave you hungry. They also have a vegan burger and a special that changes every month.
