Vegetarian and vegan friendly restaurants in Arnhem

On this page I’m sharing the best vegetarian and vegan friendly restaurants in Arnhem, the Netherlands. Arnhem is a relatively big city in the east of the country, just north of Nijmegen. As I lived in Nijmegen for 7 years, I often visited Arnhem. It’s also a convenient city to meet up with friends who live in the North of the Netherlands.
I’ve listed my favorite restaurants in Arnhem on this page. All these food spots in Arnhem have good vegetarian and vegan options!

Bij Ann

At Bij Ann you can get a nice cup of tea or coffee with one of their many homemade sweets, or go for a nice breakfast or bunch. They’ve got many vegetarian and vegan options, that are clearly marked on the menu. Their afternoon tea is always vegetarian, so it’s perfect if you want to book a high tea in Arnhem. But also for just one or two sweets you’re at the right address at Bij Ann, check out their vegan walnut-date-banana bread for example, one of their 8 different kinds of brownies, or the anti food-waste rocky road pictured above.

Locals Arnhem

Locals is the restaurant located in Hotel Haarhuis, right across Arnhems central train station. As the name suggests, they prefer working with local products. They’ve got their own vertical garden, and they work with many producers from the area. Restaurant Locals is open for lunch and dinner. If you’ve booked a table for dinner, I’d recommend going for the 3, 4, 5 or 6 course Chefs Menu.

Food Via

Food Via is one of the best vegetarian and vegan friendly restaurants in Arnhem. As they work with seasonal and local dishes, they don’t have a fixed menu. Instead they work with surprise menus and always have delicious vegetarian and vegan dishes. You can choose between a 3 or 4 course surprise menu, order a separate starter, main and dessert. Pictured you see a blini with ‘Gravad Carrot’, smoked carrot instead of salmon.

JANS’

I have to admit that I went to JANS’ in Arnhem for the first time just because I loved the interior so much. With indoor trees lit with cosy lights, it’s ‘gezellig’ straight away. JAN’s has a semi circular shape, with many windows and is connected to concert hall Musis Sacrum (wich my toddler called ‘a castle’). But I came back because of the menu. I love it that they don’t clearly mark dishes as vegetarian or vegan so that meat-loving guests will also order them. This way they hope to inspire more people to try vegetarian and vegan items. Their ‘kebab’ from celeriac is a real winner, and their Burrata as a starter and fennel burger as a main are also great for vegetarians and vegans.

Pickle de Winkel

Owners Betsie and Eva both worked in restaurants before and they noticed how much was thrown away every day. Besides, they also had a herb and vegetable garden and were therefore very aware of how much time and effort you need to put in food before it can be consumed. You also have many vegetables in the summer, but hardly any in winter. That’s when they started conservering their fruits and vegetables by fermenting them. After they quit their garden, they opened up their shop Pickle de Winkel. They turn leftovers from organic shops and farms into products for consumers. From the vegetable peels they make their own broth, and every week they sell a different noodle soup made with the broth (they always have a vegetarian option).

HOEK Koffie & Patisserie

Looking for a nice place to grab a cup of coffee with a tasty piece of cake? Hoek is one of my favorite food spots in Arnhem. It’s located right opposite of Arnhems central train station, so it’s very central. In addition to the most delicious macarons, chocobars, and pastries, there are also delightful sandwiches, bagels, and croissants at HOEK.

Bar Florian

It might be difficult to get a table at Bar Florian during lunch time, but it’s worth the try. Besides their nice interior, they have a really good lunch menu that changes every season. They’ll always have a big slice of bread with several toppings, soups, salads and tosti’s (grilled cheese sandwiches). I recommend you go for one of their ‘pane’. They have two vegetarian versions, one with grilled vegetables, hummus and mozzarella and one with goat cheese, nuts and figs

STAN Arnhem

Stan also has a restaurant/bar in Utrecht, but I really love their restaurant in Arnhem. They’ve got a big terrace for warm summer days but also a beautiful interior with many matching details for winter days. On the menu are several delicious vegetarian options. Pictured above is their cauliflower cheese soufflé served with red onion pickle and chipotle sauce on a green bun. The picture at the top of this page is also made at Stan, this is their ‘herb garden’, which is crispy vegetable sticks, red beet hummus and feta on a slice of bread.

Anne & Max Arnhem

I love the Anne & Max restaurants everywhere in the Netherlands, maybe it’s because of the name but also because of their tasty menu that’s very vegetarian and vegan friendly. As of Spring 2025 a second Anne & Max restaurant has opened in Arnhem, at the Steenstraat. They also focus on no food-waste products. They make their iced latte from left-over espresso’s and they make a cake of left-over Croissants as you can see on the pictures.
