Street-art in Athens

There are some great works of graffiti in the Greek capital city Athens. Some people don’t really like it, because they expected picturesque white houses when they’re visiting Greece. But I actually love it when a city has some cool public art works. On this page I’m sharing my favorite street-art in Athens.

Street-art hotspot Psyrri

The Psyrri neighborhood, sometimes spelled Psyri or Psirri, is a real street-art hotspot. Here you’ll find many street-art pieces of Athens, all really close to each other. You can find the Psyrri neighborhood in the North-West corner of the center of Athens. The pictures below are all taken in Psyrri.

The Psyrri neighborhood is build around Iroon square. Where you can find this cool street-art if you look up.

One of the most popular streets for graffiti hunters in Athens is Louka Nika. This alley is covered with street-art. You can find these hands there, but also the heart at the top of this page.

As a Disney lover, I loved this street-art work of Ursula from the Little Mermaid. You can also find it in the Louka Nika street.

Further down the Louka Nika street in Athens you can also find this colorful graffiti.

Also in the Psyrri neighborhood you can find the Upside Down Cafe. It’s completely inspired by the Netflix show Stranger Things. You can find all kinds of eighties references just like in the show. Check out the Pacman graffiti for example. They’ve also got a cool mural based on the Stranger Things show. The main entrance to the Upside Down cafe is on Lepeniotou street, but they’ve got a back-entrance on Louka Nika.

Around the corner, in Anargiron street you can find this beautiful colorful piece. In 2017 graffiti festival The Heart of Athens made sure that the dull walls of the Psyrri neighborhood were turned into the public-art gallery that it is today. The graffiti festival took place the weekend before Valentine’s Day and the theme was ‘Love’.

In the South-East corner of the Psyrri neighborhood, close to the Monastiraki square, you can find two big street-art works in a row. You can find this one in the Miaouli street. It’s made by Greek street-artist Ino. All of his work is always in black and white with a hint of blue. This work is called Apocalypse Now.

Just a few meters down, you can find this very colorful big mural on the side of the A for Athens building. By the way, this building has a really nice rooftop bar.

Tournavitou street

I’m not sure for how long this street-art work in Athens will be visible. The work is made on a construction side. The bottom side of the girls face is painted on a wall on the street-side, and the top half of the face is painted on the wall perpendicular to the it.

Monastiraki

Street-art also makes a great background for your pictures. Like this Graffiti work in the Monastiraki neighborhood with one of Athens’ many cats!

Carpe Diem graffiti crew

Carpe Diem is a graffiti crew in Greece. Same84 is one of its artist and he made this street-art in Athens.

Piraeus Harbour

You can find this big street-art work at Piraeus Harbour, in the South West of Athens. It’s also from Ino, the artist that we’ve talked about before. It’s called We have the Power. You see a child looking up to the ancient philosopher Democritus. You know what they say: knowledge is power.

Thision open-air cinema

On the wall of the Tision open-air cinema, close to the Acropolis, you can find this graffiti of a woman. The woman in a white dress seems to be falling down or floating on side-walk level. It’s created by the Spanish-Columbian Duo Amazonas. Too bad someone drew a moustache on this pretty lady.
