Top sights in Manchester’s Northern Quarter

Manchester’s Northern Quarter is one of Manchester’s best neighborhoods to visit. The Northern Quarter is a trendy neighborhood just North of the main shopping area of Manchester. There are many creative venues, independent restaurants and coffeeshops, colorful stores and artistic street art. On this page I’m sharing the top sights in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. As a ‘Travel Foodie’ I’m also sharing my favorite food spots with you.

Afflecks

Afflecks is an alternative shopping mall. In the building you’ll find 3 floors of shops selling all kinds things like memorabilia, gadgets and second-hand fashion. It’s a bit unorganized but that’s also the charm of it. It’s like a big indoor market.

Frog

Frog is a flowershop that is very Instagrammable! The entrance of the store is always decorated with flowers.

Manchester Craft and Design Centre

The Manchester Craft and Design Centre is located in a Victorian building. You can find all kinds of shops here from artists that make their own items. From jewellery to ceramics and paintings. You can find all kinds of artwork here.

Edge Street

Edge Street is a perfect example of how colorful Manchester’s Northern Quarter can be! There’s a bright pink building and cafe Common is housed in this blue facade.

Outhouse

Outhouse is a place for public art. This outdoor area has room for several street-art artists. The art-work changes every 3 months so you’ll never know what you’ll spot when you visit it. I love it how they transformed an ugly out-of-use public toilet block into works of art.

Food & Drink in Manchester’s Northern Quarter

Mackie Mayor
Mackie Mayor is a foodcourt in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. It’s open for lunch and dinner and everything in between from Tuesday to Sunday. There are 10 food stalls in Mackie Mayor so there’s something for everyone. Pico’s Taco’s is one of my favorites.

Foundation Coffee House
Foundation Coffee House opens at 7am, 7 days a week. It’s the perfect spot for a good cup of coffee, to get some work done or to enjoy breakfast or brunch. Besides in the Northern Quarter, Foundation Coffee House also has a location in Whitworth street.

Siop Shop
Siop Shop is a donut shop in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. They sell very Instagrammable artisanal doughnuts. They also sell other sweets and great coffee to go with it.

Evelyns
Evelyns is one of my favorite restaurants in the Northern Quarter of Manchester. This all-day neighborhood restaurant serves great dishes with also several vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dishes on the menu. The interior is light and natural with wooden furniture and many plants.

Ezra & Gil
Ezra & Gil is a coffee house that also has a menu with bites. You get a real urban feel from the interior. They’re open from 7:30am to 8pm so you can get there for breakfast to early evening snacks.

Beatnikz Republic Bar
Beatnikz Republic is a micro brewery in Manchester, they’ve got their own bar in the Northern Quarter. The Beatnikz Republic Bar is less than a mile away from the brewery. Besides their own beers they also sell wine, spirits and sodas. You can also book a beer tasting at Beatnikz Republic Bar.

Ginger’s Comfort Emporium
Ginger’s Comfort Emporium is located in Afflecks that I’ve mentioned above. It’s an ice cream parlor in the indoor market. The flavors of the day are listed on a blackboard and they also have vegan options.
