Kid friendly way to travel to London
When I travelled from the Netherlands to London with my son, I went by ferry boat. We took the Stena Line ferry from Hoek van Holland to Harwich. It was such a great way to travel with a kid. We took the night boat there and back, which meant that he could just sleep the whole trip. Because you have your own hut on the boat, you’ve got more leg space than business class. Another great advantage is that you can bring as much luggage on board as you want.
You can travel with your own car, or you continue your trip by train. We did the latter, and in just 90 minutes we arrived in the heart of the city at Liverpool Street Station in London.
How to get around in London with kids
As always when you go on a city trip with kids, I recommend taking a foldable buggy. Even when your kid can already walk longer distances, it’s probably faster and more safe to put them in a stroller.
My son loved going on the double-decker busses in London. For just a small price you can reach your destination within London by bus. No need to buy a special pass, you can just pay with your regular debit card.
The London underground is not very child-friendly in my opinion. Most underground stations are not wheelchair friendly, and therefore not stroller friendly either. Some of them don’t have lifts at all, and even when they do, they’re often hard to find. Sometimes you need to take the stairs first, before you can reach the elevator. Or, you took your buggy on the escalator but the next part to the platform only has stairs. So walking or taking the bus is probably the best way to get around in London with kids.
