The Fat Greek, restaurant in Tilburg

In the summer of 2018 restaurant The Fat Greek opened up in Tilburg. Shortened to T.F.G., you can find this modern Greek restaurant on the Oude Markt next to Cafe Anvers. I went there for the first time when they just opened up and we just came back from our trip to Greece (we went to Crete). It felt like we were testing them to see if they were really Greek. But if it was a test, The Fat Greek has passed with flying colors.
My boyfriend had the Pita Gyros and it was served the same way as on Crete: with fries in the pita. I went for the Greek Salad and just like in Greece I got a really big portion with very tasty feta.

It turned out that the owner of The Fat Greek, Costa Fotiou, is actually Greek, he was born on Crete. That’s how he knew that the Cretes serve their Gyros Pita with fries. He runs the restaurant together with his Dutch partner Faye. Fotiou gets many products for the menu directly from Greece. His family and friends have to gather all kinds of ingredients on Crete so that he can serve them in his restaurant in Tilburg.

I only recently discovered that T.F.G. isn’t only a great place for dinner, they have a good breakfast and lunch menu as well! Amongst other breakfast dishes like scrambled eggs and a Greek yoghurt bowl, they serve no less than 4 different kind of pancakes. Their most popular pancakes are American pancakes served with maple syrup and fruit but they also have Oreo Pancakes and Nutella Pancakes with white and brown chocolate sauce. I went for the Greek Pancakes, three very filling pancakes served with fresh fruit, Greek yogurt, nuts and honey.
They also have a Breakfast Burrito and an English Breakfast on the menu.

The Fat Greek opens at 11am, the perfect time for a weekend brunch!
