International Blogger Tour Tilburg

After organizing blogger tours in Tilburg in 2017 and 2018 for Dutch food bloggers, I organized an International Blogger Tour in Tilburg this year. Today I took 8 International bloggers on a food and Instagram tour in my hometown Tilburg. The bloggers live in Belgium or are born abroad and now live in the Netherlands. So I had a diverse International group with me today.

RAW

We started the blogger tour at RAW. RAW is a hotspot in the Spoorzone area. They’re mostly known for their steaks but they also have nice vegetarian dishes. RAW stands for ‘Restaurant, Always Welcome’, but it also refers to the extension to save digital pictures. Unprocessed, rough. They started in June 2016 and are still experimenting. The menu changes regularly, also based on requests from the guests.
The location of RAW used to be one where they’d repair trains. In the new interior they creatively used elements of the history and some unique pieces like the war clock of a Russian ship.
We gathered here as it’s very conveniently close to central station. We started with some coffee and tea and home-made brownies from RAW.

Spoorzone

After our brownies we had some time to explore the Spoorzone. In this area there used to be all kinds of industrial buildings to repair trains. Nowadays it’s a hip area with all kind of restaurants and creative businesses. And with a lot of street-art, it’s a perfect Instagram spot!

Lochal

Behind Tilburg central station, also in the Spoorzone, you can find the impressive LocHal. The LocHal used to be a locomotive workshop, but has recently been transformed into a great public city hall, where people can meet and connect. The library is housed in it and so are several creative companies. It’s open to the public so you can also go there if you want te get some work done or meet up with people.
The LocHal is a wonderful work of architecture and interior design and has won several prices.

Focus Foodbar

Focus Foodbar just had their opening party last night and are welcoming their first guests this evening. So the International bloggers and I had a sneak-preview. Focus Foodbar is a 100% plant-based restaurant in the city center of Tilburg. Sustainability and as little food-waste as possible are high on the list at Focus Foodbar. For example, all wines have a vegan and sustainability label and they try to work with local farms.
You can go there for lunch, dinner and drinks, but also for home-made mylkshakes, cakes and high teas on Sundays.
We had a deconstructed gazpacho and a bell pepper tartare. All vegan of course!

T.F.G.

TFG is short for The Fat Greek, a name chosen because of the roots of the owner Costas Fotiou. He’s a Greek (Cretan) born and raised in Los Angeles. At TFG they combine 2 worlds in one concept! Al the things that Costas was missing as a Greek American living in Holland he now sells at TFG.
TFG wants to create a place where everybody feels welcome and can get their favorite comfort meal.
I knew that TFG has some very Instagrammable milkshakes, so that’s what we went for!

Doloris

Another new hotspot in Tilburg: Doloris. Doloris has a Meta Maze; a walkthrough art experience with over 40 rooms of surreal art, designed and built by the creators of Karmanoia. In the realm of Doloris you immerse yourself in a world beyond ours. As you follow oblique pathways, slip through hidden loopholes, walk through walls and encounter mysterious objects, time becomes fluid. You can’t take your phone with you and it’s nice if the maze is a surprise for everyone.

On top of Doloris’ Meta Maze is an immense rooftop bar which serves authentic street-food from all over the world. We had a table full of plates. From Korean to Chinese, dishes from all over the world. Add up some nice cocktails and a perfect view over the skyline of Tilburg. It was a perfect spot for us to end our international blogger tour in Tilburg!

Goodie-bag

All the bloggers got a goodie-bag before they went home again. The bag itself was from VVV Tilburg, the tourist information center. They also filled it with ‘Humans of Tilburg’, a book from Merel-Pics, a photographer from Tilburg. She photographed all kinds of inhabitants of Tilburg. There are also discount vouchers for all kinds of activities in Tilburg provided by the VVV Tilburg for their next visit to Tilburg.

Zoete Kaart also gave everyone a refined sugar free cookie in their goodie-bags. At Zoete Kaart you can order something sweet that’ll be send to someone that you want to surprise. It’s a great birthday present when you can’t be there yourself, or a little ‘pick-me-up’ if someone’s having a hard time.

And they all got a package of Senang sauce, a new Indonesian sauce that isn’t even available in the shops yet! I’ll tell you more about it next month, make sure to like my Facebook page so you won’t miss it.
